Ivanovo to Kovin - 27 km 17miles
Last night's Wild Camping must constitute one of the absolute high points of this trip. Miles from any kind of urban or suburban developed areas, surrounded by wild countryside that one would have to be above 55°N latitude in Canada or Scandanavia to experience. Quite extraordinary in every regard, and well beyond our wildest dreams of what we may have been lucky enough to experience! And despite short changing ourselves of our Rest Day, we have been well over compensated in what we've done today!!
We continued along yesterday's dyke for a further 26km making it almost 40km of bumpy trails. We stopped at a café in Kovin for what we thought would be a regular Coffee&Pastry stop. Upon arrival it was sunny and a warm 25°C. The north wind that pushed us here offered us nothing but warm comfort until it didn't! Literally, and I kid you not, within 30mins the temperatures had dropped to 15°C, the sky became overcast and forbidding. Furthermore, our future prospects for accommodation yielded little for the next 50km, and the weather forecast for the rest of the day included 100% probability of rain very soon...... We needed a Plan B, very soon!!
We quickly abandoned the idea of carrying on a further 15 miles to a town that might have had a hotel, to one of finding a hotel right here in Kovin! Paul jumped up and spoke to the chap that had made our coffees, he then disappeared and returned before I could finish my 3rd coffee with keys to a twin room at the local hotel, The Villa Milano!! Done deal, we were downing tools and heading indoors for showers, shaves, clean laundry, comfy beds with Serbian TV to entertain us!! We were so excited, like kids!! Just as well as it was very cold and rained most of the rest of the day and evening!
We got some great restaurant advice from the locals and enjoyed a fine meal at Harizma! The locals are really pleasant and helpful!
