EuroVelo 6 - Day 10 - System Stabilisation Complete

Les Gerolles to Palinges - Coeur de Loire - 46 miles

OK, everything is working!!! Ce va bien!! Bikes, Bodies, the lot!! Today we rose v. early and hit the trail by 0800h, after a good sleep and mango/plum fruit salad for brealfast all washed down with 2 cups of tea and one espresso from my sexy little espresso maker!!🥰

We very quickly got back onto EV6 and knocked out over 50 km (30mi) before coffee in Digoin. Being Sunday we think we hit the only open Bolongarie in Digoin... Since it was packed, Paul joined the queue whilst  i queued up at at the only open Boucherie with Sunday opening in town.... Paul got Breakast and ½ the lunch while I got the other ½ of lunch and dinner bar the veg! But after a quick stop at Intermarchè, we were off again on the canal trails! After another 25 miles we found a suitable pique nique table to share with a french couple from Saveaur (sp).in the Alp region nr. Chambery. As we stopped for lunch Paul was pleased to hear we were only 11 mikes from our target.... getting up and going by 8am was finally paying dividends as we hit our 73km (47mi) target by a most civilised 3pm!!

Our campsite in Palinges has all the attributes one  omes to expect in.our modern world.... electric at site, pool and a Calypso Bar!!

So we quickly set up camp, made cups of tea for ourselves and our neighbours..... German Ursel (and dog Ilya), and French Gentean.... OK, everything is working!!! Ce va bien!! The French lady has done over 9,000km on this trip thru France, Germany, Poland, Baltic States, Scandanavia and back to here.... all on one chain and cassette with no reported problems.... the German lady rides a recumbent (for health reasons) towing a trailer for her dog!! Both very friendly people indeed.

We also met a German couple with a  guitar mascarading as Marge Simpson!

Philosophy de la Navigation - one if the few countries EV6 doesn't go thru at all is Italy, yet Italy seems to have a disproportionate input into its overarching design for its geographical design attributes.... in other words (sorry Alessandro!!), a plate of spaghetti was probably used to set the basic layout.....for EV6 at times appears reluctant to miss out any Vallè de Loire villages at all..... so when yesterday's campsite was 25miles away from our lunch spot... and that turned out to be 38 in reality we 'smelled a rat'.... now we are wiser to the fact that there are myriad routes.... slow long&winding ones and some slower.... so being Born Again Navigators we are focussing on any deviation from 'my' route which approximates EV6, and the genuine real life 'route' that was possibly involvin a sheep in its design!!

The Sky at Night here is the best I've seen for years. Little to no light pollution makes it very difficult to spot Orions Belt!! Unlike back at home the sky is so cluttered with stars that the major constellations pale a tad in the greater sky.... including the Milky Way smeared right across the sky from side to side.... what a great problem to have..... the best news is that much of the next 6 wks shall enjoy these skies!!
