EuroVelo 6 - Day 9 - The East Wind Doth Blows.

Beffes to Les Gerolles (Upper Loire) 68 miles🥵

The East Wind Doth Blew..... for the 7th day running, and six of them turning the pedals!! Sod it, the more traditional SWrly would undoubtedly bring it's unsettled, unseasonable, undesirable and wholly unpleasant stuff of Days1&2.... in other words, cold rain with no 'clean or smelly' laundry drying potential!! So, we're agreed that a hot dry perspiration drying headwind is indeed better!! Meanwhile, we were hunting for water all the time.... I carry 3litres from the start, and drink well over 6l... Paul carries less so needs a fill up more often, but yes, we are drinking loads, much with isotonic tabs added!!

Today we were so very rural that we found no, none, zero, zilch coffee shops en route before we finally stopped at 35miles@ 12noon. We shared a pack of 2 Harvest Valley oats biscuits.... (one each!!), and an espresso each out of the sexiest little coffeemaking device known to man....  see video!! Celina's boyfriend Beomgeun gave it to me as a gift before the trip and it really does make a nice cuppa coffee! Thanks Mate!!

The afternoon was filled with SOS callouts.... first to a delightful German couple, Julia&Hannes who were working with a puncture til we shared some wisdom and found the slow leak.... then only a mile down the track was an injured baby fawn deer on the track.... I rescued the poor little blighter by carrying her off the trail and out of the sunlight, then offered her water..... but her chances weren't good with a bad leg.... could only have been a couple of months old, but no Mum near by.... hopefully she was watching from afar and would return after daylight passed.... all in a day's of a couple of transcontinental adventurers!!

EV6 Signpost photo is the exact same location as a year ago when the Contract negotiations were in the final stages of the Deal!!🤣🤙

Philosophical Photo care of Bill! Cheers!!

Maintenance for Bikes

Routinely waxing my chain every two days and installed my first spare as part of my rotation strategy to reduce wear across all drive components! Pannier rack mounting brackets (always my 'Achilles heel') has responded well to the weight redistribution!

Health

We have both had grumbling knees, my right one particularly yesterday, but much improved today after a few of my pink smarties (ibuprofen!) Paul's back is thankfully responding well to the exercise and a bit care in what he attempts.... he giving everything a sensibly measured approach!! Everything else is going very well!

TTFN

Doug et Paul!!

Vegetable Chilli Non Carne for Dinner...😋
