Eurovelo 6 - Day 16 - What goes up, must (eventually) come down!!

L'Ile de la Doubs to Mulhouse 92 km  56 mi (including a 5km self guided tour of Mulhouse!!)

A reasonably sharpish start this by 0830! Both Bon Amis left camp together this morning with a threat of rain for 0900!!

Rain came around 0930 about 1min after I'd removed my jacket!! Quick apology to Paul for encouraging the rain and we were soon in Monteliard for coffee and a vast array of fancy patisserie!🥰 Mr. Kipling must up his game!!

Put jacket back on and the rain stopped.... and the sun came out.... down to the market for some lunch and some dinner provisions.... Charolais steaks as tonight will be our last dinner and overnight stop in France! Incredible to think we've transitted France via the long route.... no more small beers as Germany don't do small ones well!!💪😎🤙🍺

Today

was another payback day.... second in 3 days with our second long (>15 mile) downhill runs!! These are fabulous.... not so steep that you're on your brakes constantly, but just steep enough that you can do 25 to 30 km/hr consistently and thus out run those pesky, and over confident eBikers!! In fact, the biggest compliment those guys can give you is in their glancing at the business end of my bike to see if I'm on an eBike.... it's their only hope, and almost to the man I see their crest fallen faces as I breeze past them at 29kph....... powered only by  1 human power motor....moi!! 💪😎🤙..... that's on the downhill, and some tailwinded flat ground..... put me on an uphill trajectory, and they fly past me with the greatest of ease on their way to Mickie Dee's!! Secretly, I jealous.... The Mutually Jealous League of Gentlemen!! We lunched at the canal end affording fabulous views down to the Mulhouse Valkey and The Rhine over this flight of 8 or so locks (ecluses!).

Some great team riding today with Paul! We had some 10/12km sections at 25km/hr!! This helps so much in arriving at our destination at a decent hour, and Paul is now getting used to the rigours of back2back cycling days..... like me 5 or 6 days ago, Paul is growing in strength, and his eyesight for picking out signs is second to none!!

We arrived at our destination by 3:45pm, got our site set up and  cycled into Mulhouse Today was a great ride day in every regards!! We both got all setup, and then cycled for Mulhouse.... a mere 3½/4 miles away!!

The city of Mulhouse was a fabulous surprise, just ome more of France's many well kept secrets!! Marvellous buldings all adorned by trompe l'o'eil, bright colours, friendly people, and a lively vibe that always leaves one thinking well of this place!!

Met more good people.... Frankie as a loan lady is cycling from London to Como via Paris for a RWC match, and Richard(UK, Canuck&Irish)&Pole cana boating all over France!! La joie de vie!!

Off to bed after our our Charolais Steaks, paired with an Alsace Pino Noir red!!
