EuroVelo 6 - Day 22 'Bon Continuation' as the French would say!

Mengen to Ulm 103km 63 miles

A slightly more traditional countryside today after yesterday's otherworldly Upper Danube extravaganza of Canyons, Peaks, meanerdering river and Schloss' high on hills!!

We left our rain shelter hotel at 1030 am(30mins before chucking out time) as the rain began to lighten up a little.... I had enough time to do a 'trail fit' of my new Ortlieb rack only to find out the chain stay adapter kit was missing some critical parts(🤦‍♂️FFS!).... nothing that a visit to 12 different bikes shops of which 9 were closed, in 7 different towns couldn't rectify.... at last at the end of today's 100km day a new adaptor kit was sourced!! A salvo of rockets is currently being focussed on Ortlieb HQ for which I hope to receive plentiful, and lucrative compensation!!🤩🤙 All part of the great adventure!

We had to make an emergency nutrition stop on the trail with no cafés coming at the right time... leftover bread&cheese, figs, walnuts , tea&Coffees (care of the great espresso maker that Celina's Boyfriend Beomgeun gave me!! Thanks Buddy!!) Sure enough, a cafe then emerged almost immediately, so we stopped for more coffee, watched yet more golf🤣, and rolled on to our end point in Ulm. Funnily enough we are staying at a canoeing/kayaking/rowing club with a great welcoming culture of receiving travellers of our ilk! With this great accomodation option with 'sports club' quality changing rooms, showers, toilets and a kitchen that would make a great accompaniment to any fine upstanding cricket clubhouse or WI Hut, we decided on staying two nights and spending another rest day in Ulm!

En route we again met Gwillaum&Letitia, and also found  Robert&Petra at the Ulm campsite. Both lovely young couples are really enjoying the freedom that cyclo-camping can bring!

We had a tastey chili con carne for dinner that was unforgettable.... unforgettable in the fact that I forgot to get the kidney beans in all the race to get to the bike shop before closing! The green beans made a good substitute!! I presented the 50cl bottle of Stein Am Rhein Pinot Noir for consumption but Paul wasn't that interested in it to start.... I think he felt I should carry it another 150 miles and through another 1500m of vertical elevation, but today, for this bottle of wine the fight was over, when the cork was pulled Paul soon changed his tune!

Guten Auben
