EuroVelo Day 12 - The Heat was getting to us....

After all the mega hot days since Orleans, and a couple of unintended deviations we really kinda needed this Rest Day even if the last one was only 5 days ago....

Chalon is a lovely city, one I have been happily acquainted to for over 30 yrs now as I was fortunate enough to visit in my previous life as a member of the Kodak family. You see Kodak had a pretty major factory here in Chalon for something in the vicinity of 50 yrs. I had 3 jobs within Kodak that brought me here..... first in my Polyester extruded film base days and latterly in my Ektacolor paper base converting roles. I got to retrace old steps through this pretty city! Paul&I enjoyed coffee and Pain au chocolates, and other great patisseries for a tres bien lunch. We took in many of the local sites, and then as usual, I struck off my own to hunt&gather some bike, camping, and snacking components..... the industrial estates here are almost Americanesque in nature... massive in most every respect.... I felt a bit like Bill Bryson in 'A Walk in the Woods' regards visiting these places on foot! Almost scarey!!

Soon I returned to the camp with less than 40mins 'to do the necessary', before we went out for dinner with Paul&Debs boating friends Jim &Jehan! A great couple to dine with that insisted we escape tonight's poor weather prospects by offering us refuge on their lovely canal boat..... better than some smelly old tent!!😎🤙

Again many great folks in the campsites and town! There was young Neil&Marius from Köln heading to southern France, and 70+ Raymond from Lyon going to Brussels and, Albert c.late's, going from Belgium and headingdiwn somewhere into Spain! So inspiring to meet all these varied ages people diing their own incredible journeys!! Domenic was a guy we met in the café in Chalon..... his catch phrase was 'eye yeye yeye yey yey' when he realised the magnitude of our journey!

Onwards&Upwards!

Doug&Paul🤞😎🤝😎🤙
