EuroVelo Day 21 - From the Ridiculous to Thee Most Sublime

Tutlingen to Mengen - 70km/43miles

Well that was a pleasant surprise... from the most ridiculous to the most incredibly sublime!! From the 'Graveyard of Unprepared Cyclists' to a veritable  'Hansel&Gretelesque Wonderland' suitable for absolutely everyone that yesterday's ride was totally and utterly unsuitable for!!

Live and Learn, no pain no gain.... just glad yesterday's terrain was not dished up again, for then I may further kick down the road

my own 'Day of Reckoning'!! Paul&I have mused on numerous occasions as to whether this journey constitutes an insurance policy or yet a further extension to a warranty of our livelihoods..... in this life there are no guarantees, but as that most inspirational of men, Kodak's 'men of men' Mr. Benjamin Goodyear used to say, 'You young fellows, you just keep up this running (or any physical activity, for he played a good standard of tennis well into his 90's, and sadly just recently passed away at 101 years young!! May God rest his soul!) as it'll give you the best chance of a long, rewarding and happy life.... so far so good!!

A terrible overnight weather forecast led us to finding sheltered accomodation in 'The Men Hotel' in Mengen, pronounced 'mingin' .... super well appointed room with ultramodern layout including fridge/freezer widescreen TV and a kitchenette that 'we' (Paul!) made great use of for dinner and full English breakfast!!... all for €50.

With all dinner components still attached to our bijes we went into town to source some much needed beer!! We found the Chaise Lounge bar, and settled in nicely. We sat next to a very pleasant German guy named Stefan, an HVAC engineer who gave us the lowdown on the area as we watched Leverkuesen trounce Hach 4-0! After a couple of beers we went back to the hotel to get dinner on.... a fine and most unforgettable Chilli Con Carne care of Doug forgetting to buy the kidney beans, butvthe green beans made a rather nice substitute.... the accompanying wine was a 50cl bottle that Paul seemed reluctant to drink.... I think he must feel that lugging it up through the graveyard was not quite enough added value as yet....I knew it wss🤷‍♂️, as such, as the cork was pulled he began to see things my way.....I'm not lugging this bottle another day!! The accompaniment was perfect.... less said about the kidney beans the better!!🤭

We've also met a whole series of lovely young people doing medium length adventures, German Robert&Petra from Freiburg  going from the source of the Donau to wherever they can go in the time they have, also Letitia and Gwilliam from Brittany... I don't have his spelling right, but it's William with the Gaelic Twist of the Celtic nations of Galicia, Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, and tge Channel Isles&IsleOfMan I think! None the less we are all 'In this together'... and we re-discover this every day with all the fun, interesting, and engaging people we meet!!

Doug&Paul@ 2 days late on BlogPosting!!😎🤙#CatchingUpNoneTheLess
