EuroVelo 6 -Day 39 - Kit Returned&HeadWinds

Dunfoldvar to Baja 101km - 60 miles

October 9, 2023

Yes, it's true after a night separated from all his most important kit.... passport, wallet, credit cards, cash and mobile phone we both journeyed with the same taxi driver back to roughly the same location (but now, a small business near the first spot Paul went to last night!) where a good hearted and thoughtful person took the found bag!

What a massive relief that we didn't have to execute Phase B of cancelling all cards, and contacting the British Embassy in Budapest and trying to get a new phone working.... Ooh la la, doesn't bear thinking about!

So, back at camp by 0930 and we were pedalling breakfastless (but for a cuppa tea that Nick's Mum kindly knocked up!!) by 10am... not bad we thought... til we hit the headwinds!

They blew all day at 15 to 20mph straight into our faces... glad we went as far as we did yesterday with it on our backs! They were unrelenting, all of the day.

We passed many small towns along the way and generally had good routes to follow albeit with more roads and more of those 'Hungarians in a Hurry'.

It was a long day as we didn't arrive in Baja to the Youth Hostel&Camping til 1730h. I immediately begin the dinner preparation by cutting up onions, garlic, chilli pepper and tomatoes.... lovely tomatoes out here!!.... whilst Paul got his tent set up and showered. I got all the above cooking and handed over the dinner to The Chef.... Paul added his usual flair with bacon, lardons, paprika, mushrooms yellow pepper, cannellini beans, and soured cream. Combined with macaroni it was a meal fit for two hungry cycling guys!!

Blogged Up to date and straight to bed.... at midnight, Paul 9:45pm!

Cheers

Doug&Paul
