St. Nazaire to Le Grenettes, East of Nantes Day 5 for Doug.
First day riding together, Paul & I !! Weather forecast was rain from 0800h, so we got cracking with our tents and striking camp by 8am, just as the rain started! We bid farewell to the two young lads Dan and Josh, and rolled out by 0815!
Luckily we saw the woman who drove the van to take cyclists over ' le pont dangareux' as I had made enquiries with her on behalf of Paul. Personally I would never recommend or encourage anyone to go over that bridge on a bicycle, it must be prompted only by personal choice or individual adventuresomeness!!😎👍 She was pleased and relieved to meet Paul as I think that she believes no one should do it!! Imagine a free transfer service for cyclists, how dreadfully civilised!!
We had another gaze at the most incredible bridge and headed out straight onto EV6 along the south side of the Loire. Rain..... Mainly offroad gravel (more rsin....) trails all the way to Nantes (more rain) and beyond! We crossed the river 4 times to finish at (Voila! Sunshine) La Grenettes Municipal Campsite.... a massively tidy campsite of only 40 emplacements in idyllic Loire Atlantique terrior!!
☝️🥰👍
We stopped to provide 'assistance mechanique' for two French ladies.... our support probably saved their skins as they were not going to inspect the tyre..... I found a pretty big hole, patched it for her, and re-assembled the wheel! They appreciated our support and thoroughness!!😇 Entente Cordial improves the standing of AngloSaxons in their estimation!!
I had problems of my own.... the 2nd&3rd broken pannier rack bracket spurred
me into action, so I jettisoned some non-essential gear and carried out an urgent weight redistribution from rear to front luggage!!! 🤞😬🙏
SpagBol with Cote de Rhone red wine to sustain us for dinner!!💪 Noisy campsite neighbours serenaded us to sleep!!
