Rest Day No. 4 in Vienna Austria - 15 miles cycle tour
Extraordinarily beautiful city! Must come back!! The city seemingly has an unending supply of magnificently architectured buildings in the Gothic, and Baroque styles with neo- of both and some Art Nouveau, and Deco I think! Oodles of them for blocks and blocks in every direction! We resisted the temptation of taking a horse drawn carriage ride, and went for the beer in the beer garden in one of the many large parks. Weather was stupendous.
We broke with our 'sort of convention' about not riding on the Rest Day, as we'd have had a 30 min walk to the tube station, we also had to find a supply of cooking gas and a grocery store! Besides, a return to yesterday's island park between the Old Donau (navigable stretch), and the New Donau (Recreation&Leisure stretch) was very enticing indeed..... Still, a 15 mile ride today was not what I necessarily had in mind....!🤷♂️
As we pedalled thru town I'd barely said how often it amazed me how Europeans had such tolerance over shared spaces between pedestrians and cyclists, when just then I heard Paul addressing 'some bloke' in a loud voice about him carelessly blocking the sidewalk from the passage of about 8 or 10 cyclists by now. It wasn't till now that Paul read the writing on 'the bloke's' sleeve.....Poluzei! (Police!) We sweet talked the guy about, and got away as he was booking some guy who was local..... I guess he took one look at us and thought, 'dum kopfs!... and then never persued it...
We paid homage to WA Mozart by visiting the site of his crypt, and saw a pullover very unique to Vienna.... The pullover on the mannequin cost €350, and is made with the finest silk available anywhere in the world! All hand stitched apparantly!🤥
👍
Cheese fondue tonight at the campsite 'a la Doug'.... although Paul stuck his spoon in the broth and we got some excellent results in this new variant of the old Ramsay Clan recipe which involved a quantity of Gorgonzola! It wouldn't have been right to not finish with creme brulee!
I thought I'd better up my game in the cooking department!!🤣🤙
Cheers
